Sights Recently, I noticed I have a tendency to look at my sights when shooting sporting clays. A friend told me that many shooters have started taking the sights off of their guns. I haven’t heard of this and am hesitant to make alterations on my gun. Your opinion? Perhaps the most important phrase in your question was, “recently I noticed I have a tendency to look at my sights.” Clearly something has happened to make you more barrel conscious than you were before, and the possible causes are numerous. 1) Have you changed shotguns or your setup? If you changed your … [Read more...]
Question of the Week: Life Member Magazine
"I am a Life Member. Why have I stopped receiving my magazine in the mail?" Life Members are required to shoot a minimum of 100 registered targets each year to maintain your print subscription to Clay Target Nation. Once you shoot the required targets and they are reported to headquarters, the subscription should restart automatically within 6-8 weeks. However, every member is entitled to the digital issue. If you aren't receiving the link to the digital issue, contact us at CTN@nssa-nsca.com … [Read more...]
Ask the Instructor: Long Barrels
Long Barrels Last month I bought a sporting clays gun with 32-inch barrels, and as a result, my scores have fallen sharply. I started out with 28-inch barrels then moved up to 30-inch, and now, with the longer barrels, I can’t seem to catch up to the target. Answering your question is sort of like trying to conduct a gun fitting by email or Skype. It’s impossible! But allow me to speculate. First of all, I seriously doubt that a two-inch difference in barrel … [Read more...]

Ramagli, 73, cited recent open-heart surgery as a major contributing factor in his decision. Jeff Mainland is now Chief Executive Officer and President of both Kolar and U.S. Competition Arms, the manufacturer of … [Read more...]
Ask the Instructor: Consistency
Consistency Sometimes I shoot lights-out and other times, not so much. It’s aggravating to know my potential when I fall short of my potential 80 percent of the time. What’s the solution? Consistency is the Holy Grail for competitive shooters, but it’s elusive for many. Consistency is the number one goal of competitors that come to me for first-time lessons. For students whose goal it is to reach and remain at the top of the leaderboards, I coach them on three pillars of consistency: 1) Commitment to break point, 2) Planning and executing to plan, and 3) Commitment to … [Read more...]
