Get Involved In Your Gun Club
You go to the club, shoot a little, visit with some of your shooting companions and have a pretty good time.
The club house is usually comfortable, depending on the season. There are tables and chairs where you can settle in for a little R&R. The restrooms are pretty clean, too.
The green areas are normally mowed, the machines are usually throwing good targets, and it’s a generally nice place to shoot.
The reason these conditions exist is that the club has a Board of Directors, a manager, and members who volunteer their time to keep the club in good condition. What you see takes years of effort to create this place to shoot.
Most clubs have a list of improvements that are planned and just as large a list of things that need to be maintained for its members to enjoy.
These improvements and maintenance items take time, money, and effort to accomplish, and the board is ‘eating the elephant’ a bite at a time.
You probably deal with the club manager, but do you know your board members? Try showing the board members and the club manager some appreciation for their continuing efforts in keeping the club as nice as it is and in volunteering their time to help improve the facility.
Have you attended board meetings? Do you have ideas that might make the club even better than it is? Your ideas and possible solutions to existing problem areas might be beneficial to the club. Would you be willing to help even more than you have in the past?
If you can’t spare the time to get to know them at board meetings, find out who they are and introduce yourself to them; most of them don’t bite.
Have you thought about being on the board? New blood is usually welcome.
Getting involved in your club’s operations can make you enjoy the experience even more and help make your club better.
