One of New York’s first NSCA members, Emil F. Misata, 78, passed away on July 8, 2018, after a short illness. His member number indicates he was the 106th member of the entire association. “This is a sad loss for the New York State shooting community,” says longtime member Louise Terry. “He was clearly a founding father of registered sporting clays in New York.”
Emil formed the New York Sporting Clays Association (NYSCA) in early 1993 along with Don Nickerson and Rhonda Driscoll. They applied to the NSCA for recognition as a state association that same year and also filed with the State of New York as a Section 402 not-for-profit. Emil was president of the NYSCA until 1999, then continued as a delegate and Binghamton Gun Club representative to NYSCA until 2010. He traveled to shoots all over the Northeast Region. His philosophy was to have all shoots be competitive but always fun. In addition to sporting clays, Emil enjoyed skeet shooting and hunting adventures in Alaska, Africa, and Argentina.
He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Sandy, and many dear family and friends. Emil was a prominent insurance agent in Johnson City for the past 50+ years with Misata Insurance Agency and Thomson Agency.
The National Sporting Clays Association extends its condolences to Emil’s family and many friends in the shooting community.
