Question of the Week: NSCA Penalty Class

“What is an NSCA penalty class?”

To be eligible for class prizes, monies, and/or awards at State Championships, Regional Championships, the U.S. Open, or National Sporting Clays Championship, a shooter must have met his/her target minimums in the current shooting year: for State or Regional Championships – 300 targets, for U.S. Open or Nationals – 500. Otherwise, they are placed in a penalty class, which is one class higher than their current class, for all events.

Following the event, all shooters who were placed in a penalty class as a result of their failure to meet the 300 or 500 registered target requirement will return to their original class, with the following exceptions: If the shooter earns a punch or punches in the penalty class, they will remain in that penalty class for the remainder of the shoot year, or if they earn sufficient punches, the shooter might even advance to the next class.
