Comb Adjustment Short of having a gun fitter adjust my comb, how can I be sure that my adjustable comb is in the right place and adjusted properly? Most senior instructors would be more than glad to take a quick look at your shotgun and help you adjust it without charge, but here are a few tips for the do-it-yourselfer. Find a mirror inside your home or in the clubhouse and stand in front of it, facing the mirror, with the muzzle of your unloaded shotgun about six inches away from the mirror when you are fully mounted to the shotgun. Use a whiteboard marker to place a … [Read more...]
Question of the Week: Complimentary Limited Membership
"How do I join with a Complimentary Limited Membership?" First, here's what NOT to do: DON'T complete a form and send it in yourself. If you've never previously been a member, a Complimentary Limited Membership allows you to compete in registered tournaments during the current year. When you go to your first registered skeet or sporting clays shoot, the club will complete a CLM form and submit it with their shoot report. That's the only way a CLM form is accepted: when it is submitted by the club with a shoot report. The CLM is effective from the time you sign up at your first … [Read more...]

The Member Look-up feature will list whether a member is current or expired, list classification by gauge, and show shoot histories as well. Note: NSCA has a comparable page at NSCA Member Look-up. Stephanie Haga NSSA Administrative Assistant … [Read more...]

What is the best way to hit these targets? There are usually two issues associated with a shooter’s move when missing a target that is below waist level and going downhill or plunging. First of all, the natural swing of a shooter in a properly balanced, erect shooting stance is 9 o’clock to 3 o’clock or 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock at the elevation of the shooter’s shoulders. When a target is below your … [Read more...]
Ask the Instructor: Mounts
Mounts In observing the top guns shoot, I noticed most of them mount the gun to the kill point, then wind back to the hold point and call for the target. Why do they use this pre-shot routine, which seems like it draws attention to the gun? This is an interesting observation. Yes, many top shooters mount to the break point during their pre-shot routine, but it is not for the reasons you might imagine. Many students at the novice to intermediate level pre-mount as part of their pre-shot routine in order to visually “check” the alignment of their shooting eye over the rib. … [Read more...]
