On December 31, NSSA-NSCA completed the purchase of 23+ acres adjoining the National Shooting Complex that creates a buffer from development and helps protect the association’s investment in its San Antonio, Texas, property. The land purchase is an important investment in the future of the National Shooting Complex, preventing any type of encroachments of residential or commercial development adjacent to our property boundary. Mike Broekhove Retires from NSC
Mike Broekhove, the head maintenance technician at the National Shooting Complex, retired July 30 after working 7 years and 11 months at the facility. Born and raised a farmer, Mike came to the National Shooting Complex looking to keep busy. "We kept him busy for sure," said Peter Masch, facilities manager. Mike is known to be resourceful, bringing numerous ideas that improved the facility as well as reducing the amount of physical labor needed for certain projects. Question of the Week: NSC Memberships and Rates
"Do you offer special shooting packages or memberships at the National Shooting Complex for people who live near San Antonio?" The National Shooting Complex is open to the public on Thursdays and Saturdays and we do offer memberships. NSC members are provided Wednesdays and Fridays as additional days of shooting and also receive discounted rates on targets in all disciplines. Skeet, sporting clays, 5-stand, and trap are offered. "If I'm going to the World Skeet Shoot or National Sporting Clays Championship at the National Shooting Complex, do I need to pre-order my ammunition?" The NSC carries a large supply of ammunition for our tournaments; however, we do not offer pre-ordering. Our inventory includes all major suppliers with a wide variety of loads in all gauges and is of quantity that participants need not worry about obtaining ammo needed. Long-time Member Howard Confer Passes
NSSA regrets to report the death of Howard Confer, one of the association's longest-serving active members and the person most responsible for the high-quality targets thrown at the World Skeet Championships. He died peacefully at home on October 23, 2016, at the age of 97. Howard was an ambassador for the game of skeet in his home state of Michigan and the nation. He was inducted into the NSSA Hall of Fame in 1975 as the Ray Boller Award recipient and as a shooter in 1979. He is also in the Michigan Skeet Hall of Fame.
